Ada Yang

Ada Yang } When Sierra Leone meets China} ART BLOOMS
_

Ada Yang is literally the oddest and yet real down to earth being i've encountered in the last couple of months. I use the word odd in celebration. She is Sierra Leonean, married to a Chinese artist who was apparently looking for an African Woman for a muse and wife and the 'odds' that he  would find a Sierra Leonean woman who fits the bill and who too is an artist is all very 'odd'. And as a sucker for romance, i also find this story very sweet. Ada is calm in person, soft spoken and one can tell that she truly has become a blend between her roots and her new home. It is evident in her art, in the clothing collection she put together and in the way she presents her self. Odd i tell you, oddly refreshing.

I attended her fashion show at Bintumani last week and had a ball! The truly heart warming part of it all was when Ada spoke chinese then krio and expressed her love for her country in the most sincere and non threatening manner. Her humility was refreshingly odd. I find Ada ODD, and in that absolutly beautiful.

THERE ARE

There are places and spaces and moments and walls that know of a consecrated love. There are houses that have become love holding woman together while she births her child into present existence, wide, open, pink, eyes re-adjusting to the complexity of this holy temple named universe. There are feet that walk to seek that age when lips touched, hands held, movement in the body unexplainable. There are places, rocks, flowers, tender tender leaves, clever clouds, a bright moon deeming sun that act as backdrops to the “when” meeting of two eyes, communicating, flow flawless. There are fears that loom above streets that ache to love still—erasing images of spilled blood, ancestral violence ushering in forgiveness-spirits boundless. There are palms stained with human internal matter, collages everlasting, the guns, machetes, swords, wires configure a current that electrifies memory. There are minds that travel far to retrieve and rescue touch-sensual, vulnerable, a breath that holds, a release that forgives. There are winds that carry the sage secrets of love-in love-out to countries, lands, lovers, mothers, men, walls, buildings, spirits- forgiveness distributed freely, fear discarded simply, faith restored bravely, their lives love.

FREETOWN CHRONICLES: YOUTH VS. STATE

........i run into a couple of friends at a resto-bar in town. One of my favourite private spots in the always colourful 'downtown'  city of Freetown. It is raining outside and i am talking about relationships with a friend of mine who has recently engaged his girlfriend of 2 years. His happiness and easiness makes me uneasy, i smirk at his smile, he remains gentle with me and makes another order of roast beef. Amidst our chatter we start talking to a group of people sitting beside our table. Our discussion moves from bumming a smoke to one of politics, youth mobilizatation, development and the mentalities of a younger generation of Sierra-Leoneans. We laugh some more and begin to enjoy each other's  company.

from a rooftop view somewhere in Freetown Sierra-Leone

i took these photographs a couple of weeks ago when i went to visit a friend at her apartment. The view from her home is stunning, her space minimal with a very heritage apartment feel which reminded me of my previous apartment in Vancouver, minus the view. As i blog from Country Lodge, i can't help but wonder what the week ahead with bring. All i know for sure is that i need to start walking the walk and put the talking to a screeching halt. God cannot continue to teach me lessons i should have learned the first time around. So for thefatoublog readers out their somewhere in cyber space and beyond, i bid you a week of embracing gratitude and momentous living  (meaning, living only for and in the moment) and thank you....for visiting  yet another blog in the wild wild world of the world.wide.web.
enjoy the photographs from a rooftop view somewhere in Freetown Sierra-Leone.

.......their eyes were watching god

Instagram Genius

"She had found a jewel down inside herself and she had wanted to walk where people could see her and gleam it around. But she had been set in the market-place to sell. Been set for still bait. When God had made The Man, he made him out of stuff that sung all the time and glittered all over. Then after that some angels got jealous and chopped him into millions of pieces, but still he glittered and hummed. So they beat him down to nothing but sparks but each little spark had a shine and a song. So they covered each one over with mud. And the lonesomeness in the sparks made them hunt for one another, but the mud is deaf and dumb. Like all the other tumbling mud-balls, Janie had tried to show her shine." - Zora Neale Hurston

THE BEST LATTEE IN FREETOWN

CROWN BAKERY- WILKINSON ROAD
I am convinced i've discovered where they make the BEST latte in Freetown, Sierra-Leone...da da dum....CROWN BAKERY on WILKINSON ROAD. My boo boo & i went there this morning for breakfast...and lets just say i was quite excited & happy. We told the owner we had found our OASIS, very dramatic but Yes, i am that easily excitable especially when i discover things like great lattes in this beautiful land that i DO love.
