I have always complained that we do not remember enough. We do not remember the 11 years of war that destroyed our little nation spiritual and physically. I did not like the fact that January 6th is a date many know, but in the two + years i've lived in Freetown it was not a date that we commemorated at a national scale.

Home Suites Hotel - the newest boutique hotel in Freetown, Sierra Leone.  The owner is charming, the decor is lush and yet simple, staff welcoming and the food divine. I love the food, period. It is simple, uncomplicated, healthy and yet so rich. French Chef JP has had me eating the minute i walked in this morning, JP prides himself in knowing that every dish is made from scratch, from home grown products and as he stresses, he only uses olive oil if he has to use oil. 

The Swan Cafe located within the hotel will be open next week to the public and i know you'll love its intimate feel.

Freetown Chronicles: Questions for the Nation-Womb

The womb huh? The force it is. Life producer, carrier of sacred knowledge, destroyer. The womb. The woman. Simone de Beauvoir may find a lot of my writing quite, well for a lack of better words that will lead me to use some text book academic jargon, hetero-normative. I find my own writing these days to be highly so, I won’t place blame, it simply derives from the society I find myself in. This post is going to be short.

I finally made it to Madame Wokie this morning after many calls from Mary-Ann who in actuality just wanted to help my closet out with some fantastic shoes. "Fatou you are crazy, what are you doing here?", Mary-Ann screams, especially since my huge old truck blocked her entrance. With a huge grin i say "You made Vogue Italia".
