Here is a snippet of an interview i did with her a year back.BIOUSNATASHA
thefatoublog: thanks so much for agreeing to do this interview with us. I am personally super excited about this interview because we went to university together, did you know back then when we were in our little dorms that you’d be this successful today as an aspiring model?
bisounatasha: I didn't even know I would be living in London to start off with. Life was such a bubble living in Vancouver but I have discovered a lot of opportunities here in London. My modeling is going upwards and onwards. I haven't reached the level of success that I am aiming for but I am grateful for the work I have done so far.
thefatoublog: When did you know you wanted to model?
bisounatasha: When I was 14 I was scouted and a lot of people said I should model. I didn't do modeling until later but I always wanted to be like the models on Fashion TV, on the runways, backstage at this show, travelling to this location, etc.
thefatoublog: What inspired you to be a model specifically?
bisounatasha: I liked the idea of selling an image to people. I love clothes and makeup, and like any young girl I wanted to have access to those things, so I saw modelling as a way to do so. As well, late 80s and 90s fashion images really captivated me. Those were real women with confidence modeling beautiful clothes. Nowadays you get a 14 year old skeleton being the face of a brand my nearly 50 year old mother is supposed to buy into. There are few personalities. It's just a machine pumping out girls every year, very few who have substance and stand out.
thefatoublog: How has that process being? What are some of the highlights?
bisounatasha: It has been a long and tough road, but also full of great things such as working with top photographers like Miles Aldridge and Rankin. You meet a lot of creative people who inspire you as well to do better.
thefatoublog: What are some of the lowlights, things you wish you had known earlier?
bisounatasha: Europe in general is a tough market for black models. It is better to start in the States, and that is something I wish I had done earlier. What I know now is that if I want something, I have to go out and get it myself. Forget asking and waiting for people to help you. Only you can help yourself.
thefatoublog: Your blog is highly popular and really a great example of the power
of social media, how has it helped you?
biousnatasha: Thank you. My blog has exposed me to a lot of infuential people in fashion. My proudest moment having a picture and quote of mine used on miumiu.com ! I definetly want my blog to propel my career in fashion further this year, so I am very excited.
thefatoublog: Where would you like to be in the next 10 years? And for now what keeps you inspired?
bisounatasha: I would like to have worked with great photographers and designers. I would also like to own my own business in fashion but with a link to social media, which I think plays a huge part nowadays in being successful.
thefatoublog: What would you tell any young African girl who is aspiring to be a model?
bisounatasha: Keep fighting for your dream. People will tell you black girls don't sell, this and that, but never mind narrow minded thoughts like that. You have a purpose on this planet according to God, not some other person who doesn't give 2 cents about you.
thefatoublog: What next for the emerging and ever so talented Natasha?
bisounatasha: They say world domination, I say my hustle is out of this world ! All I can say for now is I hope to do more work in the States as a model and reach out to more people on my blog.
thefatoublog: What does freedom mean to you?
bisounatasha: Freedom means not letting anyone control you. Even your thoughts, the one thing no one should bind.
fambul dem, this is how we do...
Aaaw thanks for the love Fatou !
